Generally speaking, Malta is a great place to study and live in. Geographically, Malta is somewhat isolated and lies between Italy and Tunisia. Located near the coast of Italy in the Mediterranean Sea, Malta is an archipelago known for its temples and castles. It is also characterized by its rocky nature and somewhat unusual ecosystems within Europe. Studying in Malta will be nice and worth the experience because it will take place in a place far from the hustle and bustle of the world.
In the pursuit of getting high-quality education, a large number of students prefer to study in countries with the best education system, and when we talk about excellent living standards and world-class education, Malta is a very suitable place.
Admission requirements for a foreign student in Malta are not strict. Malta accepts foreign nationals with an educational background that matches the level of general secondary education as required. Besides, Malta universities accept individuals with a bachelor’s degree in master’s courses. Those foreign nationals who have obtained a Higher education at MSc level and work experience in their specialty are admitted as postgraduate students.
Foreign students who have Master of Science level and proficiency in the language of instruction, in most cases English, can be assigned to study to get a PhD degree at one of the accepted universities. That's because applicants for scientific doctoral studies for a doctoral degree may seek to get a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree in order to prepare a thesis under the supervision of a scientific advisor.
Please note that all documents must be translated into Maltese language.
The candidate gets an official invitation to Malta, this invitation must be submitted to the Malta Embassy for getting a visa, once you are accepted upon completion of your invitation, international students are requested to prepare themselves for all the necessary requirements that may be required on their arrival. Here is a list of the most important documents that students should have upon their arrival in Malta:
Foreign students must be accepted into universities upon completion of a compulsory medical examination at a medical institution at the place of study to confirm that there are no impediments to studying in Malta. The cost of the initial medical examination is approximately 58 USD.
Health services for admitted foreign students are provided on the basis of compensation; in addition, foreign students are required to have a normally obligatory medical insurance contract (85 euros per year), on the basis of which they will receive emergency medical assistance. First of all, students must pass an annual medical examination ($35 per year).
Note: There may be an option to transfer credits or international students; however, this is specific to the situation to which they are applied and whether they recognize the accreditation board(s) under which your previous university is registered.
Once all documents have been submitted, the application screening process is complete, successful students are notified usually within no more than two to three weeks and a formal acceptance letter is issued after an advance payment of tuition fees. Students are then able to register, enroll in a study of their choice, and choose courses for the semester they desire.
Malta visa application process:
Malta’s official currency is the Euro (€). Your tuition fee will depend on where you come from, the major you choose to study and the university or college you choose.
If you are an EU/EEA student you will not pay tuition fees for full-time undergraduate degree courses. In case you are an EU/EEA student and wish to study a postgraduate degree you will pay the same tuition fees as Maltese students. However, if you are from any other country, you will be required to pay tuition fees.
On average, you should expect your fees to be between €1,000 and €6,000 per year.
Similar to other European countries, if you choose to live in a larger city, you will pay higher costs than smaller cities and towns. On average, the budget ranges from €500 to €1,000 per month. This includes accommodation, groceries and travel as well.
If you are an EHIC holder you will be able to access the same health care as Maltese citizens for the same price, if you do not hold an EHIC you will need health insurance.
If you already have an insurance policy, you need to make sure that it will be valid in Malta, if you do not have insurance you will need to purchase a policy that is valid during your study in Malta.
